Are Corsets History or An Evolving Fashion
The Victorian ages were dominated with prudish and conservative respectability but were also the days of fashion. The lady’s maid had the task of making her mistress look fashionable and she thus had the chore of interlacing her into a corset to enable her achieve the hourglass figure as demanded by fashion. Thus to achieve a reduction on the size of the waist this much loved accompaniment for attires was worn. The tinier a waist was, the more attractive a woman was believed to be.
Presently however, fashion designers are tasked with the role of modeling corselets into attention grabbing party dresses. The woman of today will not go to the lengths of the Victorian woman and bear the pain of discomfiture just because she wants to be fashionable. Corselet dresses are largely more dependent on ingenious and inventive tailoring instead of inflexible and laborious agony in an attempt to reduce the embodiment of the woman’s figure and just to make her look stylish.
The Corsets today are created with artistry and with the aim of achieving the modern elegant and fashionable look. Some are custom made into women’s loose fitting undergarment for the upper body that are typically held up by shoulder straps and have decorative trimming made from fabric that is very easily stretchable. This type of clothing is very agreeable as day wear and is quite adequate for drawing attention to the unique contours of a woman’s upper body.
There is a marked difference between this garment that is used to fasten the woman’s upper body and to give it the required shape and another garment known as the Basques. While the former is a top body article of clothing that is designed to chisel out the body into the hourglass appearance, the later is a longer form of what is known as the bustier. The bustier is a woman’s apparel that is dressed in as an under clothing or over clothing based on individual inclinations and approach.
The difference is that the basques lengthens out below the hips and evens out on the body from the front upper body down to the hips. The question is when does a woman put on any of these garments? Firstly these garments have not become outdated.
